Who we are
Somaliland is in the Horn of Africa, it declared independence from Somalia in 1991. It is one of the poorest countries in the world. It has an estimated population of 6.2 million people. The main income is through agriculture in particular farming which has been affected by recent devastating climate changes such as droughts.
One Ramadan in 2017 a family trip to Somaliland provided an opportunity for friends and family to entrust us with their charity (Sadaqa) money to spend on those in need.
Ramadan is one of the holiest months in Islam and is commonly known as month of fasting. It is also a month where giving more in charity is recommended as the rewards for good deeds are multiplied during this month.
Since the very first Ramadan to Somaliland we have tried to go every Ramadan, fundraising with family and friends. Developing good key partnerships with local groups in Somaliland like Nasteeho and Somaliland Mental Health Organisation, who help to locate individuals, families most in need and distribute the aid to them directly.
